TOMMY DAKOUVANOS CLAIMS MONMOUTH COUNTY MASTERS TITLE

Tommy Dakouvanos, of Belford claimed the title at the 50th Monmouth County Bowling Association Masters Tournament at Howell Lanes in Howell, NJ, on February 25-26, 2012. He previously claimed the championship in 1993. His description is that it was a long draught.

Dakouvanos after qualifying tenth with a six-game score of 1172 (Michael Fogarty of Jackson, was the leading qualifier with a 1281) then compiled a 5-1 match play record with a tourney high average of 213.50.  In the two-game match play finals Dakouvanos defeated John Barrett of Hazlet 469-327. He then defeated Michael Fogarty of Jackson 386-371, then defeated James Benson of Middletown 416-359, and then met Gary Budra of Howell (the runner-up in 2006) for the final three matches. Leading up to the championship match Dakouvanos defeated Budra 513-416, then lost to Budra 397-387.

Gary Budra qualified twelfth after six games with a score of 1170. Budra first defeated Andrew Bohn of Freehold. He then defeated John Furey of Freehold 396-373. He then beat Parker Bohn III of Jackson (the 2011 Masters Champion and runner=up in 1984 and 1985) 495-396. In the fourth match, Dakouvanos put Budra into the Losers bracket for the first time with scores of 513-416. Budra came back to win the next two matches against Ken MacLeod of Brick (the runner-up in 2008) 411-345 and Dakouvanos 397-387, putting Dakouvanos into the Losers bracket for the first and only time.

In the championship match, Dakouvanos claimed the title over Budra with a 500-394.

219 participated in the tournament, which is the largest Masters tournament in New Jersey.
